1. Self-tanner in general
Is self-tanner dangerous for your health?
No. The DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) used in NÜTAN formulas is a safe active ingredient, approved by all major health authorities (FDA, ANSM, EFSA) since the 1970s. It only reacts with the superficial layer of the skin (dead cells) and does not enter the bloodstream. It is one of the safest tanning methods available.
Does self-tanner protect me from the sun?
No. NÜTAN formulas do not contain any sunscreens. A tan obtained with self-tanner offers no protection against UV rays. Always protect your skin with suitable sunscreen if you are exposed to the sun.
Will self-tanner stain my clothes or my sheets?
Golden Milk is a leave-on treatment with a non-sticky texture — it won't stain if you let your skin absorb it for a few minutes before getting dressed. Dark Foam contains a guide color (temporary pigment) that can leave marks on light-colored textiles during development time. Wear dark clothing and avoid white sheets overnight if you apply the foam before bed.
Does it smell bad?
NÜTAN formulas have been specifically designed to minimise the characteristic self-tanner odour (linked to DHA oxidation). The signature vanilla & musk fragrance, present in both products, pleasantly covers this slight odour. Most of our customers do not perceive it or perceive it very little.
2. Application
How do I prepare my skin before application?
Preparation is key to a perfect result:
1. Exfoliate your body the day before or a few hours prior with a gentle scrub
2. Hydrate well (use our Glow Mist as a primer)
3. Ensure your skin is clean, dry, and free of cream or oil
How to avoid streaks and marks?
Always apply in circular motions, from bottom to top. Be less insistent on keratinized areas (elbows, knees, ankles) as they absorb more product. Use an applicator mitt for the foam. Rinse your hands thoroughly after each application of lotion or foam
Is an applicator mitt needed for Golden Milk lotion?
Golden Milk can be applied with bare hands—it's designed for it. Just wash your hands thoroughly afterward. For Dark Foam, an applicator mitt is strongly recommended to avoid staining your palms.
Can I apply the milk to my face?
Yes! Golden Milk is specifically formulated to be suitable for both face and body. Avoid eyebrows and the hairline, and be very gentle around the eye contour.
How long should I leave the lather on before showering?
Dark Foam requires 4 to 8 hours to develop. 4 hours for a discreet natural glow, 8 hours (e.g. overnight) for an intense and deep tan. Ideally: apply in the evening before bed, shower in the morning.
3. Results
When will I see the result?
For Golden Milk: a slight tint visible after 2 to 4 hours, with the final result achieved 8 to 12 hours after application.
For Dark Foam: visible results immediately after the post-rinse shower (after 4 to 8 hours of development).
How long does a tan last?
On average 5 to 10 days without maintenance. For a permanent tan, we recommend 1 to 2 applications per week. Daily moisturizing also prolongs the duration of the result.
How do I gradually fade my tan without getting a streaky look?
Hydrate your skin regularly — hydrated skin renews more uniformly. If you want to fade your tan faster, a gentle scrub after 5 days will help it gradually diminish. Avoid harsh exfoliants that create patches.
Can I get a customized result based on the desired intensity?
Yes.
With Golden Milk, you can adjust the intensity by applying multiple layers.
With Dark Foam, you adjust the application time: 4 hours for a light tan, 8 hours for an intense tan.
4. Safety & Formula
Are NÜTAN formulas suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes. NÜTAN formulas have optimal dermatological tolerance and do not contain ingredients known to irritate reactive skin. However, if you are prone to severe skin allergies, it is advisable to perform a patch test on a small area before full use.
Are NÜTAN products Vegan and Cruelty Free?
Yes. No animal-derived ingredients, no animal testing. This is a core value of the brand.
What does "0% sulfate, paraben, silicone" mean?
This means our formulas do not contain any of these three types of controversial ingredients for health or the environment:
- Parabens: preservatives that are potential endocrine disruptors
- Sulfates: foaming agents that are irritating to sensitive skin
- Silicones: synthetic polymers with high environmental persistence
Are the products made in France?
Yes. NÜTAN formulas are developed and manufactured in France by certified cosmetic laboratories.
What is the Yuka rating of the products?
Our Golden Milk gets 93/100 on Yuka. Our Dark Foam gets 86/100 on Yuka. These are among the highest scores in the self-tanner category.
5. Differences between products
What is the difference between milk and foam?
Does the Glow Mist also bronze the skin?
No. Glow Mist is a hydrating and perfuming mist that prepares the skin for tanning and illuminates it, but it does not contain DHA. It is designed as a preparation and maintenance step, not as a self-tanner.
In what order should I use the 3 products?
1. Glow Mist → upon application (preparation, hydration, scented base)
2. Golden Milk → daily tan, face and body, no rinse
3. Dark Foam → intense tan, 1 to 2 times a week, with rinse

What are the delivery times?
Standard delivery: 3 to 5 business days. Express delivery available as an option.
Can I return my product if I'm not satisfied?
Yes. If your product is unopened and in its original packaging, you have 30 days to return it. Contact our customer service at contact@nu-tan.fr.
Are NÜTAN products available in stores?
For now, NÜTAN is exclusively available on our official website and at some selected partner retailers. Check our Retailers page to find a point of sale near you.
